RARE Roman Jewelry Moesia Thrace Rings Earrings Bracelets Torques Pendants Hair
Roman Jewellery: A Collection of the National Archaeological Museum – Sofia by Ludmila Russeva-Slokoska. NOTE : We have 75,000 books in our library, almost 10,000 different titles. Odds are we have other copies of this same title in varying conditions, some less expensive, some better condition. We might also have different editions as well (some paperback, some hardcover, oftentimes international editions). Were happy to send you a summary of the differing conditions and prices we may have for the same title. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with dustjacket. Size: 11¾ x 8½ x 1 inch; 2¾ pounds.. Descriptions and 337 photos of jewelry from Roman Moesia and Thrace. Earrings, torques, necklaces, bracelets, finger rings, hair Jewelry, pendants and ornaments. New and unread (albeit slightly shelfworn) hardcover w/dustjacket. Cromwell (1991) 219 pages. Book is without blemish EXCEPT for the dustjacket which is modestly shopworn. No tears, no chips, just somewhat edgeworn from sitting on a bookseller’s shelf for 25 years. Covers are without blemish. Inside the book is clearly never read, stiff on opening, pages are clean, crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound. Dustjacket again evidences modest edgewear. We placed it into a new mylar sleeve so as to prevent any further wear. Condition is entirely consistent with new stock from a bookstore environment such as Barnes & Noble or B. Dalton, for example, wherein otherwise new books might show minor signs of shelfwear, consequence of simply being shelved and re-shelved. No disappointments, no excuses. HEAVILY PADDED, DAMAGE-FREE PACKAGING! PLEASE SEE DESCRIPTIONS AND IMAGES BELOW FOR DETAILED REVIEWS AND FOR PAGES OF PICTURES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER, PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. REVIEW : The National Archaeological Museum is in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It occupies the building of the largest and oldest former Ottoman mosques in the city, originally known as Koca Mahmut Paa Camii. The construction started in 1451 under Grand Vizier Veli Mahmud Pasha but due to his death in 1474 the mosque was not completed until 1494. The museum was officially opened and inaugurated in 1905. Several additional halls and administrative buildings of the museum were constructed in the following years. Nonetheless the museum continues to use the historic stone building of the old mosque. The museum has five exhibition halls: Central Hall, Prehistory, Middle Ages, Treasure, and a special temporary exhibition. It is managed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The “Prehistory Hall” displays a collection of items dating from between 1,600,000 BC and 1,600 BC. The collection is chronologically displayed and includes various findings from caves around Bulgaria, tools of the earliest humans who inhabited its modern territory, drawings, simple pottery, ritual items and many others. It is subdivided into an Early, Middle and Late Paleolithic collection, Neolithic collection, Chalcolithic collection, and Bronze Age collection. “The Treasury” displays funerary artifacts and other treasures from the late Bronze Age to late Antiquity. Two of the most well-known Bulgarian treasures are located here: the Valchitran and Lukovit Treasures. “The Main Hall” hosts a collection of diverse items ranging from ancient Thrace, Greece and Rome to the late Middle Ages. “The Medieval Section” includes a gallery of medieval books, woodwork, drawings, metal objects and other items characteristic of the era. REVIEW : TABLE OF CONTENTS. Jewellery in Moesia and Thrace During the Roman Period. Notes to the Catalog. Index of Geographical Names. REVIEW : Magnificent catalog of 220 pages with over 337 detailed photo illustrations in color and black & white. Truly a treasure in itself. REVIEW : What a remarkable book! Gorgeous photos, and lots of them. Exquisite Roman jewelry from provincial Thrace and Moesia. If you are collector or enthusiast of ancient Roman Jewelry, this is must-have, but is increasingly scarce and difficult to find. Get one while you can! Rates and available services vary a bit from country to country. We package as well as anyone in the business, with lots of protective padding and containers. Unfortunately the contents of parcels are easily lost or misdelivered by postal employees even in the USA. We do offer U. Please ask for a rate quotation. Most of the items I offer come from the collection of a family friend who was active in the field of Archaeology for over forty years. Though I have always had an interest in archaeology, my own academic background was in sociology and cultural anthropology. After my retirement however, I found myself drawn to archaeology as well. I spend over half of my year out of the United States, and have spent much of my life either in India or Eastern Europe. Petersburg, as well as some other worthy institutions in Europe connected with Anthropology and Archaeology. I acquire some small but interesting collections overseas from time-to-time, and have as well some duplicate items within my own collection which I occasionally decide to part with. Though I have a collection of ancient coins numbering in the tens of thousands, my primary interest is in ancient jewelry. My wife also is an active participant in the “business” of antique and ancient jewelry, and is from Russia. ADDITIONAL TERMS OF SALE.
